Mainsail batten

Postby erbster » Mon Oct 15, 2012 6:54 pm

I am having trouble with my mainsail shedding its lower batten- replaced it once and lost the replacement almost immediately. The batten is held in place by elastic at the bottom of the pocket, which pushes the batten against the lip on the leech of the sail. The new batten appeared to fit properly, but was lost almost immediately (when no-one was looking!)

Has anyone else experienced this?
Was wondering about taking to a sail maker to see if they can do anything.
Does the collective wisdom of the forum have any advice?

Thanks
Charles

Just to follow this up in case someone has a similar problem, I went to a sailmaker today, who cut a new batten that is a very tight fit. Hopefully, it won't come out again.
