Hi Michael,

I used a stainless steel u-mount (approx 8mm - 10mm diameter stainless I think) with a backing plate. I drilled two holes (centrally, one above the other) in the trailer on the front face of the vertical post below the hand-operated winch (use a smaller drill to pilot the holes first). The mounting is secured with stainless nuts, one on each side of the vertical post, with an extra set behind to lock/secure the whole assembly. The u-mount itself is probably about 2 - 2.5 inches wide (i.e. two holes drilled 2 - 2.5 inches apart to accept the open ends of the u-mount).

Hope this helps.
