it wasn't exactly "today" - but we have been out. Just under 80 nm in 4 days in Morbihan. We got it all - F 4 to 7, waves 1 to 2 m in the Gulf of Quiberon - all in all a fun week, even though we never got much canvas up.

Apologies for lack of blogging; my iPhone charging port got sea water in it and wouldn't charge. I'll get some reports done when I get it fixed.

On Friday after Auray/St. Goustan and most of Saturday.

From the lack of small boats in the Baie de Quiberon (we were quite lonely out there - surrounded only by big boats) I came to the conclusion that the parade through the entry of the gulf was probably cancelled by the organizers for the small boat flotillas. As I never attend any briefings, I am only guessing - you can probably shed light on this.

Anyway - next time try the bay; it wasn't too bad at all - F5 and waves of about 1 to 1,5 m - good FUN sailing with one reef and staysail.

Beautiful sunny day in Cornwall yesterday. Sailed over to St Mawes and up the Percuil river. Full main, stay sail and yankee. Sea trials on tiller pilot completed and very happy:D.
Wind got up a bit on the way back, went to furl in the yankee and disaster happened. Furling line managed to jump out and wrap itself around the snap shackle:mad:. Will be looking for a Harken furling drum tomorrow.
Great day out apart from that.
Finished the day off with a bottle of Camel Valley and fresh seafood at the Waterside restaurant in Flushing:)

I have had a similar experience. I think it happens if the Yankee is being used in more than about 12kts.

Sounds like something for me to emulate when we bring Aurora in July.

Furlers - always a potential problem with open drum furlers. You can modify them and add bits to try and stop that happening, but you might want to look at

£500 each but no more jams or locks.

New Harken cruising furling drum and top swivel fitted. A2 rigging in Falmouth supplied it within 24hrs.
Very sturdy bit of kit max working load of 900kg and no gaps for the line to slip through.

Just back from another day on Kielder Water.

Conditions as interesting(?) as ever.

Started the day with a F3/4 westerly. Single reef mainsail + staysail.

Finished the day running and reaching under staysail only in a F6 northwesterly. Felt perishing on the water, but in fact was 14C.

Boat sailed well in these conditions under staysail only. Others on the lake were broaching then giving up and motoring.

12.2 Nm with a max of 6.5 kts (broad reaching under staysail only).

Northney to Cowes again, but with the lady wife, so no tipping. Quite warm when the sun broke through. Currently in East Cowes marina.

A very unusual event today, a fine bank holiday weekend Saturday.

A most enjoyable day on the water.

Started at F0 finished with F4 westerly.

Initially full mainsail, staysail and yankee, reduced (in stages) to single reefed main + staysail.

Great fun broadreaching at a steady 6 kts with single reefed main + staysail + yankee.

17.6 Nm with a max of 6.3 kts but an average of only 2.7 kts.
