Buying advice

Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy a CC second-hand and was wondering if anyone had any comments on what to look out for (desirable feature and alarm bells) in a 2nd hand CC.

I bought s/n 004 about two years ago. This boat was one of the first batch build in South Africa. It had a nice light weight hollow mast. Last year the mast broke, it was completely rotten inside although is still looked nice en shiny on the outside...

I don't know the exact history of s/n 004 but the boat was in good condition. The only thing I had to repair was the sealing of the bilge runners.

A small initial cost can save much larger expense later.

A surveyor should give you practical opinion. Talk to sailing friends: I like word of mouth recommendations.

My last survey was on a Beneteau First 235 for my daughter. It cost less than £300 from an experienced
commercial marine investigator to perform the survey. He commented on items such as standing rigging
and areas of excess moisture in the hull. Cost of "Granny's Yacht" £12,500 and there have been no surprises
so far.

Thanks for that advice, David. It is for that reason that I have decided to buy a boat from Honnor. Expecting to take delivery of my new vessel quite soon now. Just the small matter of learning how to rig, launch and recover her now...
