PORT HOLES?

Postby Robert Alston » Thu Oct 15, 2015 3:11 pm

Hello everyone.

I am keen to see if anyone has considered fitting port holes to the hull of a CC 19. These could either be like those found on a Cornish Shrimper, i.e. round and mounted on the hull below the level of the rubbing strake or, my preference, fitted where the CC 19 "stickers" are now. I would prefer an oval design rather than round and would be happy for it to be fixed rather than opening.

I haven't looked at this seriously yet so would need to carry out further research as to specifications etc. but there must be a supplier (Plastimo?) with an off-the-shelf product that would fit the part.

I appreciate that once done, it would fall into the category of being a permanent mod so as my woodwork tutor once said, better to measure twice and to cut once to avoid mistakes! Any input would be much appreciated.

Hello Robert

It has been done.

Have a look in the "Picture Gallery" at: "Zimp pics and mods and silver Zimp".
Cheers

Dennis

Hello Robert and Dennis.

About Portholes. Here is a variant, not openable, more ornamental.
Not finished yet when it comes to polishing, varnishing, screws.
Only attached on the sample. 3mm stainless steel laser-cut oval + 6mm plexiglass.
The oval's dimensions follow DixDesign drawings.

Jörgen. That is very much what I had in mind. Are the windows you have specially made or off-the-shelf?

I am sure you are very keen to get TIMBRE afloat next season. They are great boats and I wish you lots of happy sailing.

Many thanks
