Worth checking that the protective film wasn't accidentally left on when the top/fixed panel was fitted. When Tystie leaked a careful inspection showed the top lexan had been fitted without peeling the film back and then the film cut off later. The water was leaking in between the film and lexan. Cutting the whole panel out, removing the film and fitting again with Sikaflex has completely solved the problem.

Rain will leak into the boat if it is nose down, as I discovered to my cost not long after I bought Aurora. When on the mooring, I previously fitted a home made overboom cover over the hatch area (I’ve got a spray hood now)

I’ve peeled back the white tape so I can see the edge of the glass window inset in the garage roof.
I was surprised to see a fillet of black sealant around the glass about 1 cm thick.
Is it normal to have so much sealant?

I would say that your boat may have had the window replaced and looks to be too small for the aperture. Falcon (No39) had a lexan/perspex window inset into the fixed hatch that had only a very narrow strip of sealant around it - no more than 4 or 5mm, and no white tape over the top of it. The sealant on the underside, in the cabin was obviously of a non-setting type as it was always sticky.

As you can see the Sikaflex is about 20mm wide.

It began to leak after a few years, so I got HM to replace it with a "Blind" garage roof.

I'll second Dennis with the view that the amount of sealant isn't particularly excessive for an Honnor Marine fitted light.

To be honest from our experience I'd go for the cut it out clean it up and refit, not a difficult job, just uses pretty much an entire cartridge of Sikaflex 295! Easy to spot if there are any other issues then.

I’m thinking of doing exactly what Alistair suggests. Mine is not leaking but I’d looking really scruffy. In thinking I can get a clean edge in the new sikaflex with masking tape. I’ve got some solvent too (I think I’ll test that on “inconspicuous area” first...)

Any reason to use sikaflex rather than marine grade silicon sealant?

Sikaflex has been specifically developed for the situations like the glazing in the CC19.

Here is a quote from the Sika website;

"Sikaflex®-295 UV has been specially developed for the marine industry, where it is used to bond and seal plastic glazing materials in boats and ships."

Do you know what that horrible black sealant is that has been used to seal the window in? I will need to remove and find a solvent to clean the clean the surface.
