Stowing for towing

Hello everyone,

in my new album

http://www.capecutter19.org/forum/album.php?albumid=16

I have posted a few pictures of my setup for towing and storage.

I had an overall cover made for appr. 600 Euros. This is a snug fit and has not shown any problems after 5 years of usage - neither on the road or as a permanent storage cover as "Herr Nilsson" is not stowed under cover in the winter.

For transport we do not take any sails off. We made a boom/mast crutch, a mast rest to fit the tabernacle and another to fit over the samson post.

When getting "Herr Nilsson" ready for travel we stow the main in the cover just like in port and slacken off all halyards and the lazy jack. Jib and genoa are lowered and stored on deck with all strings attached.

We lower the mast into the boom crutch and store stay and shrouds on deck.

With everything slackened off we pull the mast forward through the lacing towards the bow. Here it pays that the mast is exacly as long as the hull. Put the mast rests in, tighten up all loose halyards etc., tie up the rest and "Hey Presto" ready to travel. Put the cover on, tighten the straps and off you go.

Remember: Good padding (for transport) can only be improved on by more padding.
Happy Sailing
