I have cruised around the Clyde area a few times in my Capecutter (see http://www.inspiration19.com)- I am possibly going up there for the August BH cruising from Largs to Arran/Cambeltown then back up the West Coast of Arran.

I have done this before except the Arran/Cambeltown/West Coast of Arran leg- its a great area to cruise with possible sightings of whales, dolphins, eagles and nuclear submarines as we had off Arran one time.

Obviously the exact itinerary would be dependent upon weather (lots to do in the Clyde)

Any adventurers interested?

Hi Adventurers!

The plan at the moment is to leave Largs on Friday 25th August and comeback late on Monday 24th/Tue 25th August (BH) and pull out on Wednesday. This gives some leaway.
Friday Largs- Lamlash Bay (approx 20 miles)
Sat Lamlash- Cambeletown (Approx 28 Miles)
Sun Cambeltown-Lochranza (approx 20 Miles)
Monday Lochranza- Largs (approx 20 Miles)

I will be sailing with my son Simeon

Note the above is dependent upon weather (although September is quite often settled and sunny). I am shortly to do my passage planning (once I have found my Clyde Cruising guide)!

I would love to join you, but it unfortunately coincides with a family 80th birthday bash, and since blood is thicker than water, I know what I have to do.

However, it sounds a good basis for a rally next year maybe.

It would be better to go North of Largs- there is more to do and is better sheltered. Arran is a bit more on the wild side with not many sheltered anchorages. This is why the weather should be settled, more so than in the North of the Clyde Estuary.

Gary Oldfield I think cruised around this area earlier this year- we have done it a couple of times (2004 and 2007). Many years ago now!

The Kyles of Bute can be sailed around in a day. We stopped at Tighnabruaich. Likewise Great Cumbrae can easily be sailed around in a day.

There is a great chip shop on Great Cumbrae at Millport!

Another famous must see place are the Victorian toilets at Rothesay on Bute. There is also a great crazy golf course here as well.
