Hi Everyone,
Its early days in terms of planning the years sailing but I would hope/expect to bring Meisje down from Kielder for the Rally, it is a part of the coast I have long wanted to explore.

It would be great to have you along. One of the pleasures of such a rally is cruising with the security of company in unfamiliar waters

Looking forward to it.

By the way, where did the Rally launch from in the Solent/ Chichester?
Regards
Adam

Hi Adam,

Glad to have you along! We used Chichester harbour for the ‘16 rally, though I think Northney is better (steep ramp, easier access from the mway), if you’re planning to visit the area.

Well folks,

Bob Steele and I have been working on the itinerary for the rally and we have been identifying marinas, booking restaurants and negotiating discounts. Can everyone who wants to come please confirm to me in an email and include the following information:
Boat name/sail number:
Skipper:
Number of crew:
Contact mobile number:

A number of meals will have to be pre-booked, so once I have everyone's contact info I will be emailing you menus to make your choices.

My email: charles at erb dot org dot uk

Thanks

Charles & Bob

Here is the proposed itinerary (weather permitting), visiting four Essex rivers in classic small boat cruising territory:

Sat 25th May: Arrive at Fambridge Yacht Haven (about 25 miles from M25). Launching from approx 2pm
Sun 26th May: Shakedown cruise downriver to Burnham-on-Crouch
Mon 27th May: Sail to Tollesbury Marina on the river Blackwater, crossing the famous East coast sand banks
Tue 28th May: Cruise up the Blackwater to Heybridge Basin, near the head of the river at Maldon.
Wed 29th May: Sail into the Colne to stay either in harbour at Brightlingsea, or possibly anchor overnight in the Pyefleet channel
Thu 30th May: Return to the Crouch, staying either in harbour at Burnham or anchored on the river Roach
Fri 31st May: River cruise, finishing at Fambridge. End of official rally
Sat 1st June: Haul out or informal sailing.

This trip will be mostly based in marinas, with several opportunities to spend a night at anchor, for those that wish. It will be suited to most levels of experience and anyone who has been to a previous rally will know how much help is available.

Regards

Charles and Bob

Dear All

I am sorry to say that I will not now be coming down. Cape Whisper is in for a repair that has turned out to be more than I thought. Having thrown her spring line out of the fairlead in a big blow last summer she spent a night rubbing her bow on the pontoon ahead, and what I thought was just an abrasion of the gel coat turns out to be a crack in the bows. Apparently repairing this through the little circular hatch in the forepeak would challenge a gynaecologist so it turns out to be a bigger job than the boatyard first thought. It looks like you have a great itinerary, and I wish you all fair seas and moderate winds!

All the best

Donald

Sorry to hear that, Donald. I hope the repairs go well and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s rally.
