Bobstay line

Why is the line from the bobstay led back into the cockpit rather than cleated off at the bowsprit. Why would I want to change the tension on jib downhaul?

I wouldn’t. The line holding the bowsprit down is cleared on the top of the bowsprit on every CC I’ve seen. You just sweat it to put as much tension on as possible and then forget it.

It could have been used for providing some assistance when lowering/raising the mast, or possibly lifting the bowsprit when amongst moorings.
