Genoa modification

Like other owners I switched to a yankee sail by Hyde sails a few years ago. Since then I have enjoyed better balance without noticeable lack of boat speed. The yankee is a much lighter shade of red than my original North Sails from HM in 2006. My Genoa has remained unused ever since. Yesterday I took it together with the yankee to our local sailmaker Batt sails of Bosham. We laid the yankee over the genoa and played around a bit. As a result we are taking about 30cm off the luff of the genoa. A simple job says Dick Batt and the final shape is a little bigger than the yankee near the foot but the overall shape will be much more usable I think and a better sail colour will please me.
This is not a vital mod but quite interesting. 30cm is a guess as we did not measure it just set it out on the floor till it looked right. We will see how it goes next year.

Cheers

Chris

I am very happy with my genoa modification, it is a halfway house between the jankee and full size genoa. I have lashed an old block to the handrail to get a better leach tension and can play around with that, but going to windward in a good f4 is now viable and when the wind is too much the jib is ready to take over.

Happy sailing

Chris

Looks great to me, I am tempted. I have not used my full genoa for four years now!
