Replacing staysail halyard block.

Postby erbster » Mon Jun 25, 2012 4:34 pm

I notice that the block for my staysail halyard is fixed so that the sheave is held left-to-right, but when the sail is hoisted, the block "wants" to sit front-to-back. Consequently, when the sail is hoisted the halyard does not sit properly on the block.

Would it be best to add a shackle to provide a 90 deg twist? Or perhaps a swivel? Or a new block with a swivel? (can't find one with a 90 deg twist).

Does anyone have an idea what the load on the halyard is? I was looking at the Barton Size 3 blocks (is that the right size?), but the SWL is 385kg. This doesn't seem like much....?

Any advice welcome...

Thanks
