Hello Simon

I have just measured a screw the same as the ones I used.

5.8 mm dia over the threads and 50 mm long (underside of head to tip). Hex head and a plain (unthreaded) shank 5.5 mm dia. 12 mm long.

Incidently, I bought mine at Aldi. Periodically they sell boxes of SS screws in various sizes. I make sure that I always have a good stock. I use them all over the house as well as the boat. The large hexagonal headed variety are excellent for heavy jobs, wall cupboards, radiators etc.

Only down side is they are rated A2 which is not ideal for a marine environment. I am happy to use them though because they get checked every winter.
